Why Use the Diagnostic Assessments?

The first two are out of focus and a child wearing a red shirt is in the center of the pictureYou can use the results of the Diagnostic Assessments to check your students’ progress toward meeting the standards; to evaluate, adjust and strengthen their instruction; and to determine whether further diagnosis is needed.

The results of the Diagnostic Assessments also can indicate areas for districts to consider in developing district specific curriculum and professional development. In addition, they serve as a district-based tool for monitoring progress at grade levels in which achievement tests are not administered.

The Diagnostic Assessments are not intended to be comprehensive, and they do not provide a detailed evaluation of student performance for each grade-level indicator. Rather, they focus on areas of instruction and learning shown by scientific research to be good predictors of school success.
