From the ancient time, people have been fascinated by the sun. Ancient civilizations expressed the sun as a supreme power, worshipping it as a God or Goddess. Agriculture and farming efforts have depended upon the sun’s ray to grow crops and provender. Sun is the ultimate power source in our planet, earth. In most recent time we have developed the ability of obtaining sun’s energy. We call this energy “Solar power”. It is the most clean and green source of energy.We can obtain energy from the sun using photovoltaic(PV) system. PV system regenerates solar energy of sun into solar power for producing current. PV system consists of photovoltaic panels, inverter, battery for storage, connection wire. Photovoltaic panel is a combination of photovoltaic solar cells. Photovoltaic panels consume sun’s ray and convert it into electricity. Crystalline silicon is used for making solar panels. Solar cells are made of mono-crystalline silicon. Actually these cells produce current applying photoelectric effect. This technology has good opportunity in future for renewable energy and sustainability.Solar power is a renewable source of energy. It can be used for electricity production as long as the sun exists. Solar power is an alternative of fossil fuels. It us non-polluting, clean and renewable. It doesn’t emit harmful gases like COx, NOx or SOx. Photovoltaic system doesn’t create noise or toxic chemicals. So solar energy doesn’t any harm to environment perhaps it reduces the pollution. Solar power is used in power generation, household, vehicles, space station, spacecrafts etc.Only 1% of total worldwide electricity generation is provided by solar power. The international Energy agency predicted that worldwide solar power potentiality could reach 11% of projected worldwide electricity generation by 2050. They also predicted that solar power would be the world’s largest source of electricity. The UN has found that the annual potential of solar energy was 1,575-49,837 EJ. Worldwide growth of solar energy has averaged 40% per year from 2000 to 2013.Power generation of Bangladesh is mainly depended on fossil fuel and natural gas. In recent times Bangladesh is starving for energy. But Bangladesh is among those countries in which sun warms the surface throughout the year and therefore has a strong potential for solar power generation for her geographical position. In Bangladesh average sunshine data indicates that the period of bright sunshine hours in the costal regions varies from 3 to 11 hours daily. In some rural areas of Bangladesh, people having no access to electricity, thus solar home systems (SHM) is introduced to provide electricity to households. We can dream of providing all the modern facilities to thousands of rural villages through the next decade. From the experiences of the last two decades, we can say that solar energy has become very familiar and accepted by the people of Bangladesh. For sustainable energy development and energy security, Bangladesh solar mission needs to be designed deliberately. Solar power is a virtually unlimited and inexhaustible resource. The development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge, longer term benefits .It will Increases countries energy security through reliance on an indigenous and ,mostly import-independent resource and thus enhance sustainability .
