Also known as Dhirubhai Ambani. He created Reliance Industries in 1966 with
just rupees 50,000. He is considered to be one of the most ingenious Indian
entrepreneur. His life story is an evocative example of being a wealth wizard.
Dhirubhai Ambani was born on December 28, 1932 at Chowad Gujarat as Dhirajlal
Hirachand Ambani. His father Hirachand Ambani was a teacher. Dhirubhai Ambani
started earning at a young age by selling street food. After completion of his
matriculation he went to Aden, Yemen. He worked at a gas station in Aden. He
came to India with savings and set up a textile company in a partnership with his
cousin Champaklal Damani. In 1965 their partnership ended because of differences
in business conduct and temperament. This was a kickstart to an ascending
success. In 1992, Reliance made a history after being a first Indian Company to
approach global markets to raise its finances. Following this it also became
first Indian company to be featured in Forbes 500 list. Dhirubhai Ambani was
named as the “Man Of 20th Century” by Federation of Indian Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He was awarded “Man of The Century Award in 2000
by Chemtech Foundation and Chemical Engineering world for his outstanding contribution
to the growth and development of Chemical industry in India. In 2000,1998 and
1996 he was featured as the most powerful people in Asia. On January 2016 –
Dhirubhai Ambani was awarded Padma Vibhushan- The country’s second highest civilian
award. Unfortunately, Dhirubhai Ambani suffered from several strokes and got
paralyzed. He died on 24th June 2002. In our group’s opinion Dhirubhai
Ambani’s success story makes him an exceptionally note worthy entrepreneur. He
rewrote corporate culture of India and constructed a global corporate Industry.
Even after his death his vision has lead Reliance Industries to new heights. His
son Mukesh Ambani shook Indian telecom with launch of JIO. Dhirubhai Ambani
arrived in Mumbai with rupees 50,000 and had already built 75 billion empire
before he died. One of his famous saying is,” Pursue your goals even in the
face of difficulties and convert adversities into opportunities”.
