Psychedelic evolutionary solution for mental illnesses. Mental illness is

Psychedelic Psychotherapy is an escalating type of treatment for mental illnesses. These therapies provide biological and psychological healing with the assistance of psychoactive drugs. Recent studies have shown how psilocybin can create a migrational effect on the concentration of brain activity to help depression. Another one disclosed how similar chemical structure adaptation causes sensory connections to be altered. Thus allowing a beneficial neuroplatinoginc effect on the brain, in which allows the person to have positive emotions and reduces anxiety. There’s also more transcendent methodologies, that aids those with addiction.Psychedelics (psychs) are plant, mushroom or chemical substances that creates their commonly known mind altering effects. Substances such as LSD, magic mushrooms, Peyote (cactus), DMT (from the ayahuasca plant) and many more (psychedelic.com). The Greek words “psyche” refers to the mind and “delos” means clear and manifesting (Thoricatha, 2015). Therefore the word psychedelic means manifesting in the mind. Psychs are substances that create vivid and abstract visions, what’s known as a trip. During these trips, people are able to see things through a different perspective. It reveals knowledge within and outside one’s self (Psychedelic insight-oriented psychotherapy,2001). This life changing experience supported the historical theory of psychedelics being an asset towards mental health.Currently studies have shown that psychedelics primary help with anxiety and mood disorders. Within these categories of mental illnesses include: depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addiction (UPMC, 2015). This has the ability to be an evolutionary solution for mental illnesses. Mental illness is a prolonging problem affecting around 450 million people worldwide. Just in the U.S., one out of five adults experiences a mental health disorder within a year (World Health Organization, 2001). Interestingly enough, the most common mental illnesses are anxiety and mood disorders (UPMC, 2015). These mental illnesses do not only affect one psychologically and emotionally. It also harms them biologically too. Stress creates a chemical imbalance in the brain and effect it’s neurological activity. With constant stress, it can force cognitive regions like the amygdala to physically increase, but also makes the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex to shrink. These particular areas control and regulate emotions, memory and rational thinking. These effects on the brain cause the emotional problems related to mental illnesses (Consumer health digest, 2016).Psychedelics being used as medicine is not entirely a new concept. Actually, people have been using holistic substances for centuries now. This is mainly due to the fact that the majority of psychedelics are naturally grown, and have been around for thousands of years. Psychs maintain various forms and can be found all around the globe (psychedelic.com). The Native Americans, Aztecs and other ancient cultures commonly used psychedelics as  apart of religious and healing ceremonies that were typically conducted by shamans. Shamans are known to have access into the spirit world, acts as a guide during these rituals and heal with energy (The History of Shamanism, 2013).These methods should be practiced because psychedelics have the potential help the mental illness epidemic because they can actually treat the problem. Psychedelics are being shown to positively affect patients mentally and biologically. Compared to our current medical solutions, that only reduce the symptoms. So many people are being controlled by their mental illness, and are numbed as a solution. Therefore, they cannot truly live and experience life as they should. That’s why I believe that people can greatly be profited by psychedelic psychology. Not entirely in relation to money, but more as being an asset to their overall lives and wellbeing (Tupper, Wood, Yensen, & Johnson, 2015)Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), also known as acid, is a chemical type of psychedelic that’s produced from fungus of rye grass. LSD is normally a liquid form and is applicated on a piece of paper that people dissolve on their tongue. This type of psychedelic is unique because of it’s dosage size. With a few drops of acid, about 30 micrograms, can induce a full trip
